Oni Shoveling Snow

Dec 20 - Mommy will have you believe that she is treating Oni like a nice guest. But here I bring to you my own photo-expose' of what a slave driver she is.

Oni shoveling while mommy does nothing to help.

Oni lifting the shovel filled with heavy snow, while mommy gives evil persecutory smile.

Snow being lauched by poor Oni to the side of the driveway

Oni, after a hard days work. For more Oni and snow related infomation see - http://avimanyuk.blogspot.com/2007/11/house-before-and-after-snow.html

My Dreams

A pictographic representation of my thoughts as I lie in bed...

Hehehe... I am a soccer superstar. Check out my Maradona thighs... here I am dribbling past the defender...

What??! Who put these green donkey slippers on my foot? Where are my soccer shoes??

Hmmm... might as well just lie around and stare at the ceiling.

Stomach time

Dec 17 - We had Anne, Paula, and Susan come over for lunch today. There was record snowfall of 30 cm. last weekend, so it was quite an adventure for mommy and daddy to go grocery shopping. After they left, I gave them 2 hours before I decided to request Oni to kindly have mommy bring me my milk..... in 10 or 20 seconds. Mommy came scurrying back 10 mintues later complaining that she could not finish her shopping. She also said that the car got stuck in the snow around the corner, and that she had to disembark and slip and slide her way back home to bring me milk.

Excuses, excuses....

I WANT MY MILKEY!! In 10 or 20 seconds.

Contented - I am lying happily on my back...

Confused - When suddenly they put me on my stomach.

Hopeful - Is this white stuff milkey?

Resigned - Lets sleep some more

Last mid-wife visit

Dec 13 - Today was the last visit to mid-wife. Anne did some last minute measurements, and discharged me from their care. I want to have them over for lunch, and after perusing my busy schedule the only time I could fit them in was Monday at 2 pm. It will be a pleasure and an honor to have them come to feast on masala dosa at our place along with Susan.

I dont know why but people like to pick me up. Most of the time...

I am just lying on the bed, waving my hands and legs, minding my own business...

When suddenly mommy comes over and picks me up. And when she is done...

Oni asks for me and picks me up. This goes on throughout the day... By the way check out Oni's cheeks. Looks like she has been drinking a lot of milk.

Visiting Doctor and mid-wife

Dec 10. - I was taken to visit a pediatrician today. The good news first - I was given vitaminD drops today and have been asked to take it everyday. Imagine my surprize when the drops hit my tongue and it tasted nothing like milk. Here I was thinking milk is the best thing ever, and this doctor gives me something that tastes completely different. What an incredible place this world is, with not 1 but 2 great tasting substances... what more can I ask for! I already like this doctor, and will look forward to future visits, just like, I believe, every other child does.

Now the bad news - I might have mentioned this before but I am watching my weight. Despite being on a no-carb diet I know that I have put on weight. I didnt realize how bad it was until I found out today that I weighed 10.2 pounds. If my calculations are correct this is a daily average gain of 46 grams. This is well above the average of 15-30 gms. At this rate I will double in weight by year end!

Good, Bad, Ugly - girl

Dec. 9 - Upstairs bedroom. Suddenly mommy and Oni decided I did not have enough exposure to the color pink in my life. Even I had noticed after 4 weeks on the planet that items I came into contact in day-to-day life had a disproportionate prediliction for being blue. I put this blue imbalance to my inability to discern colors other than black and white. But today I discovered that the color pink was purposely hidden from me from birth by friends and family because it was a female color, which, had it continued might have seriously impeded my ambitions of being an artist. To put my anxiety to rest I was dressed up as a beautiful girl today replete with black bindi, with mixed results.

The good - Girl has nice pink dress with black bindi.
The bad - Girl has a receding hairline if not is bald.
The ugly - The pink diaper is showing.

From the Mind of Manyu

Dec. 8 - I am about 40 days old today. This week I went and met my future play-mate who was born exactly 30 days after I was. Looking at this 5 day old baby, I was reminded of my own youth, when I was almost half as heavy, and used to sleep throughout the day. Happy memories...

I am presently able to make out the intonation in all languages - english, kannada, mandarin, swahili, etc. I can also decipher people's faces from individual body parts. In other words, if the features of a face - nose, eyes, eye brows, etc are scrambled, I can still figure out who the person is. You people cannot do this....

But I will soon lose this ability to follow different languages and will specialize in only those that I hear often - English, Kannada, and French. Also I will be better able to recognize small variations in faces and lose my ability to identify a face by its individual features. So when I am 3 months old I am almost like a computer that is pre-loaded with all kinds of programs, abilities and features, and with time, many of these programs will be erased from memory. But then I will become better at using the few programs that I will be left with.

So why then, if I am the most advanced and evolved piece of nature's technology....
... do I have this primitive user-interface? This is the face I make and the sound I make to communicate on every subject. Even Windows 95 has a much more advanced user interface.

Also did I mention that at 2 months I have the same ability to tell two human faces apart as I do telling two monkey faces apart. Over time though, given the exposure to only human faces I will only specialize at telling humans apart, while simultaneously losing my ability to tell monkeys apart. Making monkey faces at me, I understand, is my dad's way of preventing me from losing that ability.

What is that?

Noooo... not the monkey face again!

See what I mean?

I am Stuck

Dec. 7 - First I am placed vertically against the wall and made to stick to it.

This enables me to "stick" to this surface as if by magic. By the way, check out my Ali G outfit, replete with scull cap.

I still have a tenuous grasp of physics, but I believe its called gravity.

OK, that is kiss number 270,882,229 and counting.

Dec 6 - Check out my yellow shoes...

Dec 5 - Mommy using me as a 10 pound weight to do barbell curls, while I closely inspect her bulging biceps.

My 3 Best Service Providers

Dec 4 - If I am really cranky the best person to put me to bed is Oni. She puts me on her shoulder, rocks me on her lap and says sweet things to me in Kannada.
If I am hungry the best person in the world is mommy. She mostly kisses me on my face, gives me food, and kisses me even more.
If I want to see the world I go to daddy...

My Family

Dec 3 - Mommy retires to bed at around 11 pm soon after feeding me and putting me to bed. I wake her up 3-4 times at night for about 1 hour, which, if my math is correct, gives her 8 hours of sleep by 11 am. If I am awake at this time, then I am immediately whisked off to the basement to be looked at by my international family. Thatha, Lalitha, and Seema all have stared admiringly at me gawking at the wall, yawning, drooling, or in most cases toppled over asleep as below.

Mommy and I on webcam, and speakerphone chatting with Lalitha.

My grandmamas sorting through a collection of old photos of Mommy when she was a baby. On the table is a crouching elephant with a mohawk haircut. There is a cute well-dressed brown bear in the red bag, and both were presents from Aunt Govindini and Uncle Jason.

30 day Video

Nov. 28 - Unedited footage on day-28. This is a video weekly update made in the basement. Seema, Lalitha, and Thatha regularly watch me on webcam, but this is higher quality video with some unflattering closeups of my head bruise, large ears, acne, and general baldness.
